The Right Glass for Your Ground.

From a compact .22 rifle scope to a premium long-range flagship, the right hunting riflescope depends on your terrain, your quarry, and how far you're realistically shooting — not on buying the most magnification you can afford.

How to Choose the Right Hunting Scope

A few things matter more than the rest when comparing hunting riflescopes:

  • Magnification range — match it to your actual hunting distances, not the biggest number available. Bushveld and dense-cover hunting rarely needs more than 7-10x; open plains game and long-range work benefit from higher top-end magnification.
  • Objective lens diameter — a larger objective (44mm and up) gathers more light for better dawn and dusk performance, at the cost of extra weight and a higher mounting position.
  • Focal plane — Second Focal Plane (SFP) reticles stay a constant size regardless of magnification, simple and traditional. First Focal Plane (FFP) reticles scale with magnification, keeping holdovers accurate at any zoom level — a genuine advantage for long-range work.
  • Weight — every extra gram matters on a walk-and-stalk hunt. A lighter scope on a lighter rifle is a real advantage over a full day in the field.

There's no single "best" scope in this range — the right one depends entirely on what you're actually hunting and where.
