See Through the Bush. Close-Range Clarity.

The Pulsar Axion Compact XG30 is built specifically for spotting animals hiding in thick vegetation — a larger 640×480 sensor gives genuinely better target separation than smaller-sensor devices when the bush gets dense.

✓ BUY IF

  • You regularly hunt or scout in thick bush, scrub or dense vegetation where target separation matters.
  • You want a genuinely larger 640×480 sensor without stepping up to the longest-range XG35.
  • You value close-to-mid-range clarity over absolute maximum detection distance.
  • You want tripod compatibility for extended stationary observation sessions.

• NOT IDEAL IF

  • Maximum detection range is your top priority — the XG35 reaches noticeably further.
  • Budget is the primary concern — the compact 384×288 models (XQ19, XQ30 PRO) cost meaningfully less.
  • You mainly scan open terrain where a larger sensor's vegetation-penetration advantage matters less.

↗ CONSIDER

  • Axion Compact XG35 if you want the same 640×480 sensor family with meaningfully more range.
  • Axion Compact XQ30 PRO if budget matters more than the larger sensor's vegetation performance.
  • Axion Compact XQ19 if you want the most affordable entry point into thermal.
  • Vortex Veil 400 if you require unlimited lifetime warranty & total peace of mind.
Product Overview

The Pulsar Axion Compact XG30 is a great tool for close-range observation in areas with thick vegetation. Its 640×480 sensor with 12µm pixel pitch provides meaningfully more image detail than the compact 384×288 models — a real advantage when trying to distinguish an animal from surrounding foliage or scrub.

Detection range extends to 1,300m, with 2–16× magnification (8× digital zoom) through a frost-resistant AMOLED display. The wider field of view (14.6° × 9.2°) also makes scanning easier across varied terrain.

Built from magnesium alloy, the XG30 is IPX7 waterproof rated and operates from -20°C to +40°C. Wi-Fi connectivity, Stream Vision 2 app support, 64GB of built-in storage, and tripod compatibility round out a device built for serious close-range field use.

Budget-Conscious First Thermal ★★☆☆☆
Extended Active Hunting ★★★★☆
Noctis application note: The XG30 is genuinely purpose-built for the specific challenge of spotting animals in thick cover — its larger sensor delivers real target-separation benefit that a compact 384×288 device can't match. If open-terrain long-range detection is your primary need rather than vegetation penetration, the XG35 extends further.

Detection range is the distance at which a human-sized heat signature can be detected (not necessarily identified) under favourable conditions. Sensor resolution, pixel pitch and display quality also meaningfully affect real-world image clarity — a longer detection range does not automatically mean a clearer or more usable image at that distance.
