✓ BUY IF

  • You want a scope designed and recommended for MIL/LE, competition and demanding tactical use.
  • You want XD extra-low dispersion glass — a genuine step up in optical quality over the Venom.
  • You value the patented Radius Bar fiber-optic system for visually tracking turret rotations.

• NOT IDEAL IF

  • Weight is a major concern — at 644g (22.7oz), this is genuinely the heaviest 1-6x LPVO in the Vortex range.
  • You want the single brightest daylight illumination available — reviewers consistently note it's daylight-usable but not as bright as the Razor Gen II-E or an Aimpoint.
  • You're on a tighter budget — the Venom delivers real tactical capability at a lower price point.
  • You want a scope with an included throw lever accessory for faster magnification changes during dynamic shooting. The Viper PST requires an additional purchase in this regard.

↗ CONSIDER

  • Venom® 1-6x24 SFP if you want similar magnification and reach at a lower price, with less proven pedigree.
  • Razor® HD Gen II-E 1-6x24 if you want genuinely daylight-bright illumination and top-tier glass, and are prepared to pay more for it.
  • Strike Eagle® 1-8x24 SFP AR-BDC3 if you want more magnification reach in a notably lighter package.
Product Overview

The Viper® PST™ Gen II line delivers an unfair advantage to shooters who aim to keep the upper hand in every situation, from close quarters to long-range shots. Crisp turret adjustments and striking clarity at every magnification make it a trusted choice for competitors and MIL/LE professionals.

The illumination dial is cleanly integrated into the side focus adjustment knob for easy access, offering 10 intensity levels with off-positions between each setting for quick recall of your preferred brightness. Vortex's XD (extra-low dispersion) glass increases resolution and colour fidelity, paired with proprietary anti-reflective coatings across all air-to-glass surfaces.

The hash-marked VMR-2 reticle uses MRAD-based (or MOA-based, depending on variant) subtension lines for ranging, holdover, and windage corrections. A patented Radius Bar fiber-optic system visually assists tracking turret rotations. Unlike some other models in this range, a throw lever is not included as standard — Vortex offers the Switchview Throw Lever SV-5 as a separate accessory for shooters who want one.

Noctis application note: The Viper PST Gen II is designed and recommended for MIL/LE, competition and demanding tactical use, with genuinely strong glass and tracking precision. Its honest weakness is weight: at 644g (22.7oz) it's the heaviest 1-6x in this range, and its daylight illumination, while genuinely usable, isn't the standout the Razor Gen II-E offers. Choose it for proven reliability, not for being the lightest or single brightest option.

Turret configurations vary across the range. Most models use capped turrets to help prevent accidental adjustment, while adjustment graduations and total travel differ by model and reticle configuration. "Daylight-bright" illumination — genuinely visible in direct sunlight, functioning like a red dot at 1x — is explicitly confirmed by Vortex for the Razor and AMG lines; other models offer illuminated reticles that are daylight-usable but not marketed with this specific claim.

Reticle & Sight Picture

The VMR-2 reticle uses a hash-marked subtension system for ranging, holdovers, and windage corrections, available in both MRAD and MOA versions depending on the variant selected. For fast hits at closer range, shooters make use of the illuminated centre dot.

Illumination is genuinely usable in daylight per independent reviews, though consistently noted as less bright than the Razor Gen II-E or a dedicated red dot — a real, honest distinction worth knowing before purchase.
